Quick summary

Looking for ways to reconnect your teams as you come together after the chaos of the pandemic? These post-covid team building activities and ideas will help put that goal on the right track.

After all of the chaos and disconnection that the COVID-19 pandemic caused, it’s time to bring your teams back together. These fun ideas for post-covid team building activities and days out will help reconnect your staff and put your company culture back on the road to productivity and positivity.

10. Karting

For a post-covid team building event, this is a popular choice for many reasons. Firstly, it’s good fun and, secondly, you don’t require a driving licence to take part. Many of the larger karting centres have cafes on site, so there’s plenty of scope to get everyone on the track for a few laps before taking a break and then heading back on again. If your team is sizeable, you can split into smaller teams and then eliminate those finishing last until you’ve got a final few participants left to battle it out for the title of ‘Supreme Karting Champion’. As there’s often a viewing station for others to watch, it lets everyone else cheer on their colleagues while they wait. It’s always a good idea to get a team photo when everyone has their overalls and helmets on prior to starting.

9. Paintball

If team members say they’ve never seriously considered how good it might be to hit their boss or one of their colleagues with a paintball, we suggest they’re probably not being entirely truthful.  As a post-covid team building event, this is seriously good fun. It gets everyone out in the open air for a bit, which can be great if you usually spend your time sitting behind desk in your office. Not only does it get people out of their comfort zones and push them to explore aspect of themselves they may never otherwise do, but it’s generally just a good giggle to shoot colleagues without fear of reprisal. Especially since you can often do so from behind a tree. Paintballing sessions can run for several hours, depending on how many paintballs are purchased, but there’s often a chance to have a break in between games to grab some food and a coffee to recharge your batteries before heading back on to the battlefield for another round.

8. High Ropes

This is another fun post-covid team building activity that gets people out of their comfort zones and encourages a bit of exercise in the fresh air.  Being harnessed in and having the chance to explore the treetops can be hugely liberating and is also a great way of getting your team to work together to get everyone from the start to the finish line. Some colleagues will relish the idea, while some will undoubtedly be more reluctant, so it’s up to everyone to give support and encouragement to ensure everyone can complete the course. The sense of achievement in making your way through various sections and conquering the course can be hugely rewarding both personally and professionally.

7. Escape Rooms

Getting the team back together after a possible extended absence – or at least an absence of being within 2 metres of each other – calls for some serious fun. Escape rooms, while available online, are always best played on-site and in-person. This is great bonding experience, as well as being highly entertaining. It’s up to everyone to work together using their skills and knowledge to successfully navigate their way out of a locked room by solving a series of puzzles in the allotted time.  Escape Rooms are so popular, they’re now a staple in most cities and towns across the country. There are hundreds of options on different themes and games, and they are usually timed for around 30 or 60 minutes. If you have a larger team, you can split across different rooms in the same venue and give employees the option of what appeals to them most.

6. Old School Sports Day

Regardless of their ages, everyone is likely to have experienced a sports day during their school days. Although these may have changed a bit over the intervening years, there are a few staples that have stayed the course.  If you have a county park nearby, you can use the open space to set up your sports day and take suggestions from your staff on the games to play. While the three-legged race, egg and spoon race, and sack race are firm favourites, there’s no reason you can’t incorporate whatever takes your fancy or make the games more personal to your business and staff. Print out some fancy certificates for the winners to pin up on the walls of the office or give out small prizes for the best effort.

5. Indoor Rock Climbing

If your team spends a lot of time sitting around office chairs and only get a bit of exercise when getting up refill coffee cups or walking to the conference room for a meeting, it might be about time for some post-covid team building activities that involve a bit more moving around. Indoor rock climbing is a great way to work together and cheer each other on to literally reach the top. It takes a bit of skill and determination – all excellent traits to help you get on in your working life. It needn’t be a race against the clock to see who makes it to the top first, just getting there in any amount of time is an achievement if you’ve never done it before.

4. Karaoke

If you have a budding Adele or Sam Smith in your workforce, karaoke as a post-covid team building night out can be a barrel of laughs all round. Although not everyone will necessarily feel comfortable enough to get up and get involved, you often find, with a few drinks, most will give it a shot. There’s no need to be able to hold a tune to get up and sing – and the most memorable performances are usually the worst ones, it’s always good for a laugh. You might even uncover a hidden talent in someone you least expected. The added advantage of karaoke is that you can hire equipment to host the event in your own workspace or hit up a local bar with a themed evening.

3. Bubble Football

No footballing skills are necessary to get involved in a post-covid team building activity that involves employees donning massive inflatable bubble suits and attempting to play the beautiful game. Everyone is aware that the aim of football is scoring more goals than the opposition but managing to do that when you’re the size of the Michelin Man is a slightly different challenge. Bubble football is a good team building event as it encourages everyone to work together to win the game, but it has the added advantage of being hilarious. Offside has never been so difficult to judge and VAR is non-existent in the Bubble Football League.

2. Cooking Classes

There are many professional cooking schools across the country offering the chance to book a day out as a post-covid team building activity. Unlike Bake-Off, where people are competing against each other, this can be a good way to promote working together and supporting colleagues who find the tasks slightly more difficult than others. Cooking schools will often concentrate on a single dish, or two dishes, for the day, and instructions are provided for every step of the preparation, cooking, and presenting of dishes. This ensures the team members who tend not to do much cooking at home don’t find themselves stressed about how to go from a pile of raw ingredients to a finished plate of food. It’s always gratifying to see how much effort and concentration goes into the prep, as much as it is to see just how well employees can follow a series of instructions.

1. Volunteering

There’s bound to be a local charity in your area that would benefit from help to paint that exterior wall or build up all that flat-pack furniture to display in their showroom. Getting involved in local causes can be the perfect post-covid team building activity as it not only helps colleagues to gel over a shared goal, but it also helps local organisations who have suffered immensely from lost donations or fundraising events during multiple lockdowns. Not only can your team know they’re involved in something vitally important to members of their local area but it’s just a great way for your business to give something back to the community. With many companies adopting socially responsible strategies to assist in local work, there’s no reason this can’t become a more frequent venture in the future.

Wondering where to book your post-covid team building activity?

If you need to keep the budget down, then it’s best to book an activity in your home town or city. If the cost isn’t an issue, then why not book a night away somewhere fun and make it a proper staff trip?

Conclusion

During the uncertainty of numerous lockdowns, most of us have lost the face-to-face contact we took for granted with our colleagues. Now that things are returning to normal, it’s time to spend a day getting back in touch, catching up and, most importantly, having a bit of fun together to make up for the time you’ve missed.
